What does it look like to “be a light” to those in need? Sometimes it’s as simple as a food pantry volunteer offering a cheery smile on a rainy day while loading food bags into a client’s car. It’s keeping the shelves at Gloria’s Place Food Pantry neatly organized and ready for the next day’s activities.
It’s a dental technician providing calm support while explaining to a new patient what the day’s procedure will look like in our Dr. Edward Benton DuBose Dental Clinic. It’s also a dentist donating his/her time to provide quality care to a client who might never have visited a dentist before.
Being a light means introducing high school students to career and work opportunities through our Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) as they ponder their career choices.
Finally, being a light means providing resources through funding, networking, or collaboration to help us meet our mission of “offering HOPE, HELP, and CHANGE in Georgetown County. On faith-based principles, we seek to create sustainable futures through job training and youth empowerment to relieve generational and situational poverty, while meeting immediate needs of food insecurity, utility support, and dental care.”
Palmetto Giving Day is a 36-hour online giving event in Georgetown County and occurs May 6-7, 2025. Please consider including Helping Hands of Georgetown when making your Palmetto Giving Day donations.
