In February, Helping Hands of Georgetown’s Board of Directors renamed and dedicated its dental clinic in honor of Dr. Edward Benton DuBose, a retired dentist from Georgetown who recently passed away.

Former Board member Dick Schwab gave a tribute to “Benny” during the funeral service, which was held on Feb. 17th. Schwab shared how “Benny” had “a vision for a free dental clinic for the underserved. While he kept running into roadblocks, he remained undeterred.”

With the help of Dr. Dubose, Schwab, and several board members, in 2011 a proposal was approved, and steps were taken for the clinic’s establishment. The first patient was seen in 2013. Last year, 2024, the clinic served close to 1,000 patients.

“We will certainly miss Dr. DuBose as we value his years of expertise and insight,” said Executive Director Brendon Barber. “I’m glad we were able to share the renaming with Benny and his family. The plaque will serve as a beautiful reminder of Dr. DuBose, who was always concerned about the needs of those less fortunate.”

The plaque hangs in the Helping Hands “Dr. Edward Benton DuBose Dental Clinic”.
