Helping Hands Dental Clinic was established in 2013 by a group of local dentists and interested citizens who recognized an unmet need. Realizing that tooth/dental issues were the most common driver of local emergency room visits, the group wanted to give uninsured residents suffering with these ailments a more fitting alternative for dental care. For area residents who lack dental insurance, tooth and gum issues can be both problematic and painful – especially when the care they need is simply beyond their financial reach. And of course, in addition to the pain that dental issues can cause, a lack of dental care can have a larger impact on a person’s overall health, as well as on his or her self-confidence. But thanks to Helping Hands Dental Clinic, a range of routine dental services, including cleanings, evaluations, extractions and basic restorative services, can be secured free of charge by uninsured, low-income Georgetown County residents. Helping Hands Dental Clinic is unique to Georgetown County and one of a small handful of free dental clinics across the state of South Carolina.
Operating Hours
Helping Hands Dental Clinic is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays each week. Hours depend on the availability of our dentist. Please call 843-461-9111 to speak with a member of our dental staff.
Eligibility
To qualify for these services, you must be uninsured (no dental insurance), meet income requirements, and be a resident of Georgetown County.
Documentation
Patients will need to bring the following documents:
- Photo ID (such as a driver’s license, identification card)
- Proof of Income (social security statement, check stub, etc.)
- Your Physician’s Contact Info
- List of Current Medications
- An Interpreter, if English is a 2nd Language
Confirmations
All appointments require confirmations according to Dental Clinic Appointment Policies (effective 2.26.24)
No Show - If you DO NOT call to cancel your appointment, you will NOT be eligible for another appointment at the clinic for 1 year.
Canceled Appointments - If you call to cancel your appointment, you will be put at the bottom of the waiting list for another appointment.
Confirmation of Appointment - If you DO NOT confirm your appointment by 5 pm the day BEFORE your scheduled appointment (either by speaking with dental staff directly or by leaving a message), your appointment will be canceled for non-confirmation. We MUST receive confirmation that you will attend your appointment.
